La Costa Sunday races were a regular part of the slalom racers lifestyle in the mid- to late '70's. Racing happened sun or fog, 52-weeks every year for 3 years. It was a place to meet and skate with friends. Photo shows Di Dootson(seated) with Tommy Ryan, John Hudson, Torger Johnson and some racers whose names I can't remember. Does any recognize them? Perhaps tag them on Facebook? Please email information to nationalskateboardmag@gmail.com.

The Field...

These skaters were also racing on Sundays at this time. Brian Logan. Danny Trailer, Neil Graham, Steve Lis, Conrad Miyoshi, Vince Turner, Joe Roper, Gary Keating, Ty Page, David Andrews, Bob Bergen, Dale Dobson, Lance Smith, Dave Dominy, Tony Padilla, Steve Menas, Earl Smith, Mark Matina, John Sigurdson, Brad Hurst, Chris Henderson, Eddie Katz and Vince Andrade, to name a few.

A few racers were independent skaters. But, by the time most racers were sponsored by teams. At this early point, they were local San Diego companies: Logan Earth Ski and Bahne. Soon the field of racers and companies represented came from NorCal and across the country from Colorado and Florida.

Then and Now

This is where you ask yourself where are those skateboard racers now? Well, I can tell you. But first I have to tell you that this is not enough space to print it so you'll have to wait to the next edition of National Skateboard Review - On the Web.
